Most riders do not ask for theory. They ask one simple question: after the ride is done, how much money stays with me?
In this rider's experience, he did not renew his Rapido subscription after it expired. He started duty around 12:00 noon, when demand is usually slower, and worked until nearly 4:00 PM. His goal was to show how Rapido commission, GST, wallet deductions, cash rides, UPI rides, online payments, and parcel rides affect a real shift.

How Rapido payment works for the rider
The rider explained the wallet in simple language. If the customer pays cash or UPI directly, the rider gets the fare immediately. After that, Rapido deducts its commission, platform charge, or GST from the rider's wallet.
If the customer pays online in advance, the money does not come as cash at the drop. It gets added to the Rapido wallet. Incentives and online-paid rides can increase the wallet balance, while commission and GST can reduce it.

The first ride was only about 1.9 km. Many riders skip short rides because a longer 8 km, 10 km, or 15 km ride looks better on the screen. The rider's point was more practical: if you want steady work, you cannot only wait for long rides.
The pickup distance matters more than the ride label. A 3 km ride can be useful if the pickup is 1 km away. The same 3 km ride becomes weak if the rider travels 2 km just to reach the customer.

Second ride: 6.6 km toward Baltana
The next ride went toward Baltana. The trip was around 6.6 km, and the pickup was about 1 km away. This is the kind of ride that feels better because the pickup waste is smaller compared with the paid distance.
The customer fare came to about ₹54. The rider collected the fare, completed the ride in the app, and then showed that the wallet was adjusted after the cash collection.
Commission, platform charge, and GST
On one ride, the rider showed a platform charge of ₹7.61. On another ride, he pointed to a much smaller deduction of about ₹0.89. His explanation was that the company deducts its charge from the wallet, and GST can also apply.
His view was clear: without subscription, commission-style deductions were visible across rides. With subscription, the commission may be treated differently, but GST can still appear. Riders should check the trip details, not only the headline earnings.
Parcel ride: why pickup details matter
The rider also received a parcel ride. He had earlier turned parcel duty off because he was not carrying his tank bag, rubber ties, or the usual items used to secure parcels properly.
The customer called and said the parcel would be tied properly and extra fare would be given, so the rider accepted. He picked up the parcel with OTP verification and delivered it to Sector 15, Panchkula. The map showed about 3.6 km.
His advice was useful: if the exact shop or pickup point is unclear, reach the location first, call the customer, and confirm before wasting extra distance.
Online payment increases the wallet, not cash in hand
One customer had already paid online. The rider did not receive cash at the drop. Instead, he showed that the amount was credited into the Rapido wallet.
That matters because many riders mentally count cash in pocket as the day's earning. Wallet credit is still earning, but it has to be tracked separately and transferred to the bank later.
Extra distance can increase the fare
In one ride, the customer wanted to go slightly beyond the entered drop location. The rider said he could drop them ahead because the fare increases when the bike runs extra distance.
That is an important small lesson. If the app records extra distance properly, the rider may receive a higher fare. But the rider still has to judge whether the extra stretch is worth the time, fuel, and return distance.
How ride acceptance works
The rider also explained why some good rides disappear quickly. When a customer books, nearby riders receive the request. Whoever accepts first gets it.
In one case, he was about to press accept, but another rider accepted before him. That is normal in a dense market. Fast acceptance helps, but accepting every ride blindly can still hurt if pickup distance is too high.

Is subscription better than paying commission?
